18 communes of Phu Tho province have outbreak of African swine fever

Phu Tho – From the beginning of 2025 to July 14,African swine feveroccurred in 18 communes, causing 849 pigs to become sick and die, forced to be destroyed.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho province, in just the first 2 weeks of July, African swine fever continued to flare up in 10 communes including: Thung Nai, Cao Duong, Tien Phong, Lac Son, Tram Than, Hung Viet, Hy Cuong, Hien Luong, Van Lang and Phu Khe.
A total of 252 pigs were destroyed in 38 households. Currently, there are 16 communes with epidemics that have not been over 21 days.
Since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has occurred in 18 communes in Phu Tho province, including: Yen Tri, Yen Thuy, Cao Son, Mai Chau, Pa Co, Kim Boi, Hop Kim, Cao Duong, Thung Nai, Tien Phong, Lac Son, Xuan Dai, Tram Than, Hung Viet, Hy Cuong, Hien Luong, Van Lang, Phu Khe. The total number of households with sick pigs is 159, the number of sick and dead pigs that must be destroyed is 849.
The authorities said that the epidemic mainly occurred in small-scale livestock farming households, which were not eligible for biosafety measures. The reason is due to subjective psychology, massive herding while the price of live pigs remains high.
Along with that, transportation and trading activities have increased, some households also sell sick pigs and dead pigs. In addition, prolonged heavy rain is also a favorable condition for the epidemic to spread rapidly.
